Our first topic will be Maine's  Low Profit Limited Liability Company legislation (also know as L3C) and what it means for social enterprise in Maine.  This legislation has  already passed in Vermont, and MOO Milk, though based in Maine, received its L3C Status by forming in Vermont.  Our speaker will be Chris McLoon, Esq., of Verrill Dana who has been working on the legislation.  In addition to talking about the L3C legislation, Chris will discuss the so-called Ben & Jerry's law, and how Maine's proposed legislation will address the same issues the Ben & Jerry's law does - mainly protection from shareholder suits for those companies which are public and want to be able to make decisions based on their social mission, not just their profitability, without fear of shareholder lawsuits.  There will also be plenty of time for networking, so be sure not to miss this event!
